Lemongrass drink known as “Nam Ta Krai” is Thailand’s famous herbal drink. It has several medicinal properties and is commonly used in health, spas and hospitality industries throughout Thailand.
Due to its long list of benefits, lemongrass is traditionally used to relieve flatulence, indigestion, gastric irritability and cholera. It also helps release cough and nasal congestion.
The decoction is the easiest and popular method to make this exotic drink. For best health benefits, it is recommended to drink a decoction after freshly brewed.
To make a drink, simply put Citral’Sip lemongrass into 2-3 inches and slightly smash with a heavy object as its essential oil can evaporate. Boil with drinking water and simmer for 20 minutes. Serve hot as tea or cold with crush ice. Brown sugar can be added as flavoring if desired. The drink can be refrigerated for up to 2 days, for optimal freshness.
I recommend dried lemongrass as it has a long shelf life and is very easy to keep and use and having more citral then fresh. For more tropical flavors, you may optionally add pandan leaves, known as Bai Toey in Thai, during decoction of lemongrass. Pandan leave has a distinctive fragrance and is widely used as flavoring and coloring for Thai desserts, food and drinks.Apart from Pandan, one can try Mint, Lemon Peel, Cinnamon series of our other flavors.
